Security forces stormed the hiding place of Izzet Al-Douri, the former vice president of Iraq under Saddam Hussein, in a village near Tikrit, 170 kilometers north of Baghdad, said an Iraqi official on Friday.
They using intelligence that confirmed that Al-Douri was using it to hold meetings with his colleagues, said the source who spoke on condition of anonymity. The forces did not find al-Douri, but seized documents information on the al-Qaeda terrorist network and other militias, their activities and the techniques used to conduct their operations in northern Iraq, said the source.
The documents also referred to the participating groups from attacking military targets and Iraqi police forces, but did not contain any reference to the American troops. The source said later, the police pursued a car in which Al Dourri was traveling, but the driver managed to escape.
They later found the car abandoned, but with a computer containing important information, small arms and other equipment, the source said. Al-Douri was number five on the 55 wanted list of the American army announced after the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
